What is your favorite destination and why?
Vickie: Anywhere in Italy. North, south, east, or west, I love it all. The food is amazing, the history and sites give me goose bumps, the people are—well, so Italian and warm. From climbing Mt. Vesuvius to the canals of Venice, from St. Peter’s Square to the island of Capri, each place is unique and makes me want to keep going and meeting locals and eating and absorbing everything the country has to offer me.
Dora: My favorite destination so far is the island of Malta, in the heart of the Mediterranean. I find the people of Malta to be very friendly, and there’s good weather with sunshine year-round. The island of Malta intrigues me with the medieval knights of St. John and 7,000 years of history.
What do you love about small group travel?
Vickie: When you travel with others, you make connections with like-minded travelers, experience unique destinations together, and have as much or as little interaction with other travel group participants as you choose.
By limiting the group size (normally 8–16 for land journeys), you can experience more personal connections to the destination. It could be anything from lunch with a local family to a cooking class or wine tasting. It’s energizing and exciting, and sharing the experience with others is a perfect way to travel.
Dora: Small group travel allows each friend or family member to grow and, at the same time, create new memories to add to his or her life story.
What was your most memorable travel experience and why?
Vickie: Snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef, and I’m not even a huge beach / water / swimming fan, but the sea life and the colors and the absolute beauty were amazing.
Dora: Climbing the Great Wall of China. To know that it was built over 2,000 years ago, stretching approximately 5,500 miles long, and that millions of people around the world have also climbed this historical monument was just amazing.
What do you want clients to experience traveling with Well Designed Journeys that they won’t experience traveling with anyone else?
Vickie: That personalized service is still around for those who travel, and that we will create great life memories with our journeys.
Dora: That they will feel special by receiving exceptional service with every detail planned for them.
What is your favorite cuisine and why?
Vickie: I love to eat, so picking my favorite cuisine is difficult. I love Italian and fusion and tapas and Caribbean. I love healthy cooking with lots of vegetables, but then great gelato is hard to beat. So, from the fried bamboo worms (sort of creamy) to the ultimate Italian pasta, I’m ready. Let’s eat.
Dora: My favorite cuisine is Italian since I grew up with Italian families in my neighborhood. However, I do enjoy food from around the world (Mexican, Chinese, French, Thai, Greek, etc.) with the exception of insects and raw meat.
What is the one place you want to go, but you’ve never been?
Vickie: Africa! I’m ready for a safari, and I want to search out the Big Five animals.
Dora: Morocco! It would be fascinating to experience travel on the trans-Saharan camel routes of old and bring treasures back.
