When it comes to the European drink of choice, most people always think of wine. However, Europe has long been one of the top regions in the world for manufacturing beer. Destinations from around the world are lined with pubs that serve the best in European beer. Today we feature the best breweries in Europe.

1. Spaten Brewery. For beer enthusiasts, Spaten represents one of the best in European beers. The German brewery is at the forefront of Germany’s beer culture that is one of the largest in the world. Located in Munich, Germany, Spaten is one of the most extensive brewery tours in the world, as it is two hours and includes a film, introduction to the process of brewing Spaten beer, and beer and food tasting.

2. Guinness. The Guinness Storehouse tour is one of the top factory tours in the world and at the top of many travelers’ list when visiting Dublin, Ireland. Many visitors will tell you that there’s something about an Ireland Guinness that’s so much better than the Guinness they’ve had in other countries. Visitors get the freshest pint available at the end of the tour. Special group tours can be arranged that educate visitors on how to pour the perfect pint of Guinness.

3. Chimay. Chimay is interesting because it has also been a major producer of cheeses for years, in addition to its beer production, which dates back to the mid-1800s. Did we mention that Chimay is produced in a Trappist monastery in Chimay, Belgium? Visitors often return home with a few Chimay beer glasses, which is one of the most unique beer glasses in the world, with the appearances of a wine glass, rather than the typical pint glass.

4. Wells & Young’s Brewery. Many travelers may not be as familiar with Wells & Young’s, which is produced in Bedford, England. However, Wells & Young’s is one of the most interesting brewery tours you’ll take. The tour actually takes place during the evenings and includes a meal of bangers and mash, which is a popular English dish of sausage and mashed potatoes. Since Wells & Young’s is the result of the merging of two of England’s largest breweries, it brews an extensive number of beers, which guests sample during the tour.

5. Monsteiner Bier. Monsteiner Bier Brewery is a must-visit for no other reason than its beautiful location in Monstein, Switzerland amidst the Swiss Alps. As visitors pull up to the brewery, they’ll notice the tall peaks of the Alps rising in the background. What’s even more unique is the multiple beer tasting experiences available, one of which includes a train ride and another that includes snowshoeing. Although there may not be much to the outside of the brewery, it is the unique experience coupled with beer tasting that makes this one of the best brewery tours in the world.
