When it comes to the food meccas of the world, Tuscany is hard to overlook. For years, Italy has been known as one of the top food and wine destinations in the world. At the forefront of Italy’s cuisine has been the region of Tuscany, one of the top cheese destinations in the world. Today we provide a guide for taking a cheese tour through Tuscany.

Before going on a Tuscany cheese tour, it’s important to know a little bit about the history. Cheese is a highly revered part of Italy, and this couldn’t be more so than in Tuscany. Like most regions in Italy, Tuscany produces particular types of cheeses that are unique to its region. For example, the cheeses of Tuscany, can be vastly different in texture and taste from the cheeses farther south, such as Sicily. There are several predominant types of Tuscany cheeses, including ricotta, goat, raviggiolo, caciotta, and pecorino. There are variations of these cheeses, but these are the primary ones. It may be surprising to many travelers that some of these cheeses are a product of sheep milk, as compared to the cattle milk that most people think of when it comes to cheese.

When you think of the U.K., what first comes to mind? Pubs, British accents, fish and chips? Certainly somewhere near the top of that list will be the U.K.’s beautiful architecture that culminates in the many castles that are scattered throughout. No one British castle is like another, with each featuring variations in architecture, design, and grounds that differ from one another. Today we highlight some of the best castles the U.K. has to offer.

Bovey Castle. Built in the early 1900s, Bovey Castle is what some may call contemporary, since it doesn’t have the same history that may come to mind to many when they think of castles. However, though just a century old, it has a rich history, as it was used during both world wars. The castle is located deep in the English countryside at the edge of Dartmoor National Park, making it an ideal location for a luxurious romantic retreat. The castle’s interior is an attraction in and of itself, with plush furniture and well-appointed décor. With its location off the beaten path, Bovey Castle offers many activities, including golf, a spa, hot ballooning, hiking, and fly-fishing.

    travel tips

Similar to international travel, if there’s one thing you universally find with diving, it’s that each time you dive, you’re likely to find something different. Even if you’re doing a more specialized dive, such as wreck diving, it’s interesting how each site varies.

In our two-part series, we explore some of the world’s best wreck diving sites:

Grenada. Grenada has made a name for itself as one of the best wreck diving sites, garnering names such as the Titanic of the Caribbean, Isle of Wrecks, and others. The name Titanic of the Caribbean is attributed to the Bianca C, which is a 600-foot cruise ship. As such, it’s hard to do the dive in one day. The wreck is a result of a fire in the mid-1900s, and the ship sank when it could not successfully be towed back to shore. However, because of strong currents in the area, this dive is only for experienced divers.
